Maintenance needed?

Hello,

I received my racingcube a week ago and it’s already making a lot of noise. The noise comes when the racingcube is moving up/down/etc.

Do I have to put some oil (wd40?) somewhere to lubricate?

Regards,

Adwim

Hi Adwim,

Some maintenance is needed and you might need to add WD40 at some point. I am currently making a maintenance guide.

Can you describe the noise it is making, is it rattling when it is going down? Do you hear the noise when there is weight on it? We know that it can make some noise the first 10 - 20 hours, that is due to the way we are lubricating the gears and it should get better after that period.

If it is a whiny noise you might need to add some WD40 to the arms lifting the frame, you can access them from beneath. I will make a quick guide for you if needed.

Did this get resolved? Was it just bedding in / additional lubrication?

It’s what Steffen wrote. After a while the noise get’s less. It’s not completely gone, but a lot less than in the beginning.

It’s hard to say what noise it is and when the noise occurs. What I’l do is make a short video with sound, so you can determine it yourself.

Is that ok?

Hi Adwim,

Glad to hear it is getting better! It might be hard to know what noise is good or bad and we are trying to resolve it for future units. The reason for the noise is due to how the motors is made, we do not use standard motors with built in feedback as many other motion platforms. Ours is made specifically for us and as our motors uses a specific gearing it needs to be used and they will actually get better with time. Our Prototype uses the same motors and it have been in operation for 3 years with no complaint. There might of course be exceptions, and if it gets worse please let us know!

Additional lubrication is not possible as it is filled completely up! You might experience a brown grease coming out at some point, that is completely normal. That is due to the excess lubricant, and is perfectly normal, just wipe it off the rotation plate.

Please make a video of the noise if you can, we do not want to keep anything secret. We just want a better product!

I also get the noise coming from the actuators.

in the beginning the noise was coming from everywhere but I can confirm that with use the noise is less and less

right now the noise comes out only from the rotation module and I’m totally positive with use the noise will disappear also from there.

Ok it really is a tortured metal on metal noise at times isn't it.  I am not at the 20 hour mark yet so am sucking it up and ignoring it until then
