After receiving the Simulator quite early (last Thursday) I didn’t had the time to set it up until yesterday afternoon. As I’ve read that the setup should take 15-30 minutes I started with confidence. However it took me 3 hours just to set up the base. I experienced a few hiccups due to being one of the first. For example not lol of the hand screws went in to easy. It seemed that the welding Dit something to the screw thread. Luckily I have a drilling tap 10, so the problem was solved easily. After that was finished I started wiring and attaching the wheel etc. to make it neat it took me another 4 hours. When finally done I started to see if I could make it run. Unfortunately I could see the game, but no movement whatsoever.
this morning Steffen called and the problem was fixed in no time. Now I was ready to begin the adventure.
I need to explain that I do not have any experience in sim racing. Especially the Racing with VR is new to me. After setting everything up I drove my first rounds in project cars 2. That was quite some experience. My first round on Spa was almost completely of track and it took me 3 minutes for one round. Wow, but what a ride it was. After I adjusted some settings that help me with some basics it worked a lot better. I also did some tuning on the simulator on sim tools and I can say that it is feeling better every time. A small tip. Don’t overdo it. The moment you make too steep adjustments, your aim will throw you out. The movement is realy very sharp and the actuators are very strong. I could feel the car drifting away under my hands if I spun of track. The guys of fasetech did a hell of a job.
one minor backside of the VR sim is that after driving for 15 minutes I got a real bad case of motion sickness. Man that was nasty. As a n00b in sim racing and VR, I didn’t know that you can feel so sick by being detached from reality. I stopped for half a day and tried again this evening. I made it for half an hour but than the noussea kicked in again. I hope I get used to playing In VR otherwise I need to go back to a three screen setup. I’ve read a lot about it tonight and luckily I’m not the only one. It seems to be a serious problem. If any of you has a tip for me, you’re welcome to share.
for the rest it is awesome. Feeling the car doing what it is doing, (breaking, accelerating, cornering) is really stunning. It is feeling quite good and with some fine tuning it will be even better. I’ll keep you informed as I go along.
Make sure your IPD is set correctly, I have heard that's important, and then don't over do it, bit by bit but it can take a while.
Hi Patim
your doing well, I experienced about the same with the setup.

Hi Patim,
Thank you for the nice review! I'm sure it will benefit a lot of people in the future and we love to read it after so many years in development.
Regarding the motion sickness, you will get used to VR. I experienced a lot of motion sickness in the start too, but now i can have it on indefinitely. But it definitely have something to to with the settings of the simulator also. Once you get the hang of the software and you find your ideal settings, it will help quite a lot.

Yes i agree, I used to get a bit of motion sickness and felt giddy when I came of the VR, this when I was using the PlayStation VR.
any way I stick with it and I’m now fine, I don’t get any effects using the sim with the VR, Thankfully

I guess that it gets by. I start for small amounts now and it already feels better. Besides I still have much to learn about the settings, so I won't get bored. 😉
Question: In PC2 the car, from time to time seems to make an unwanted surge. Nothing is going on and suddenly on the straits the Simulator gives 2 or 3 surges. Can anyone explain that?
Hi Patim,
We are actually having the same issue on our test models, it showed up the first time a week or so ago. I will try to run it bu the engineer and see if we can find a solution for it.
However i am quite sure that it has something to do with the Surge setting besides the Yaw setting. Try to remove that surge setting and see if that does it. See picture below
You can just remove the digit to the left of Surge.

Oke, I will give it a try. I come back to you.
Perfect, it works at our test models. You might want to turn up yaw a little afterwords, but it might be a preference.

Another first impression. I drove with the "LaFerrari"over the Californian Highway Full with attached settings. A bit to much I guess, but man what a ride. When you jump over the hills, you feel getting lifted end sliding all at once. Really perfect. In PC2 however you need to control your throttle and brake or you wil drift off. Still getting in last, but hey, I am not getting motion sick anymore 🙂
Maybe some downtuning on the setup for a fast more steady drive.

As what I understood, the closer to 0 the fiercer the reaction. So your Yaw is low and the rest is superstrong (I guess) maybe I am wrong.
No you are right, I was wrong.
See the rest of my settings in Iracing post.
